In 1988 Prof. Dr. Angelika Velkova, MD, obtained her Master's degree in Medicine at the Higher Medical Institute - Pleven of the Medical Academy. In 1995, she obtained a second Master's degree in Epidemiology of Public Health at Erasmus University, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The professional development of prof. Prof. Velkova started in 1988 in Pleven. In 1989 she became an assistant professor at the Department of Social Medicine of the Higher Medical Institute - Pleven. In 2014 she became a professor at the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Medical Statistics, Pedagogy and Psychology at the Faculty of Public Health at the Medical University - Pleven, and in 2009 she took the position of Deputy Dean at the same Faculty. From 2005 to 2013 he was Head of the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Medical Statistics, Pedagogy and Psychology at the Faculty of Public Health of the Medical University of Pleven, and from 2009 to 2013 he was Deputy Rector for European Integration and International Cooperation.

There are numerous qualifications: "Epidemiology" at Cambridge University Summer School, UK and Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands; professional qualification in "Cancer Epidemiology" at Cambridge University, UK; professional qualification in "Epidemiology of Ageing" at the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, Brussels, Belgium; qualification in "Hospital Management" in a World Bank project, training organisation National Centre for Public Health and Saludad y Desarrolo, Spain; qualification in "Applied Health" MATRA programme(Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands), The Hague, Netherlands and Chisinau, Moldova, training organisation School of Public and Occupational Health, Amsterdam, Netherlands; qualification in "Preparation and Management of European Projects "How to access the European Commission grants?" with Welcom Europe training organization, Brussels, Belgium; qualification on "How to teach Global Health" at the Medical University - Pleven, under EQUAL project of the European Commission with lecturers from Medici con l' Africa CUAMM and University of Bologna, Italy.

Since 2014 she holds the academic position of Professor at the Department of Social Medicine of the Faculty of Public Health at the Medical University - Sofia.

Prof. Dr. Angelika Velkova, MD, PhD, teaches students in the educational and qualification degree "Bachelor" and "Master" in the specialty "Public Health and Health Management", "Health Care Management" and "Midwife" at the Faculty of Public Health at the Medical University - Sofia. She devotes a huge part of her time to research.

He is the author and co-author of more than 200 scientific articles, 7 textbooks and 3 monographs, and has over 450 citations in the country and abroad.
